| Presenter's Short Biography | Performer, Conductor, and Composer - Dr. Nicholaus Meyers is a Voting Member for the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs, and currently Director of Bands and Percussion, and Chair of the Department of Performing Arts at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Dr. Meyers directs the ECU “Pride of Tigerland” marching band, wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, teaches applied percussion, conducting, and other courses in the music education sequence. Before coming to ECU, he was the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. Additionally, he serves as a faculty member at IMC (International Music Camp). Before coming to Oklahoma, Dr. Meyers also taught at Augusta State University and Troy University. He taught for nearly a decade as the Assistant Director of Bands at Lakeside High school in Evans, Georgia which is considered to be one of the top 6A high school music programs in the state of Georgia. He has also performed with the Augusta Symphony, Augusta Opera, Augusta Players, Augusta Chorale Society, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, Greater Grand Forks Symphony, Oak Ridge Symphony, and Fort Gordon Dinner Theater. Dr. Meyers keeps an active schedule giving masterclasses, discussions, adjudicating, serving as an honor band clinician and performing. He is also a commissioned composer and arranger with over 70 original works. His works have been performed throughout the United States and Europe and are published by C. Alan Publications, HaMar Music, Per-Mus Publications, and through self-publishing. Currently, he is the Oklahoma Percussive Arts Society Chapter President and past Chair of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band, and past Chair of the Percussive Arts Society Composition Committee. |

| Session Title | Percussion Accessories - The importance of the small items at the back of the ensemble! |
| Session Description | The session will go over several percussion accessories found within ensembles ranging from the concert band to the orchestra. Many times, these smaller instruments are overlooked by both the ensemble director and student performing on them. However, each of these instruments have their own unique sound they bring to the music and their own unique way of being played. Some of the accessories to be discussed in this session would be based around: shakers, suspended cymbal, sleigh bells, triangle, tambourine, woodblock, and crash cymbals. Depending on time, 1 or 2 additional accessories may be discussed. |

Traditionally, these companies would let me know at the start of the Fall semester of how they would support the session. They may send the following items: sticks/mallets, stickers, catalogues, swag, and maybe smaller instruments such as woodblocks and/or tambourines for demonstration and/or to give away. Also, East Central University would provide any print programs, posters, and swag if needed. |
