Presenter's Short Biography

Adam Wiencken is the Percussion Specialist for Broken Arrow Public Schools in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. As Director of Percussion and Battery Arranger for the Pride of Broken Arrow Marching Band, the ensemble is a consistent Bands of America (BOA) Regional Champion and Grand National Finalist. In Adam’s tenure, The Pride of Broken Arrow is a 12-time Regional Champion, 9-time Grand National Finalist, the BOA Grand National Runner-Up in 2012, 2014, 2017, and the 2014 BOA Grand National Class AAAA Champion. In 2011, 2015, and 2021 The Pride of Broken Arrow was named the BOA Grand National Champion.

As Director and Founder of Broken Arrow High School Indoor Percussion, Adam has led the program to receive high accolades in its short history, capturing five Winter Guard International (WGI) Regional Championships; Broken Arrow Indoor is a 4-time Scholastic World Class Finalist at the WGI World Championships. Also under Adam’s direction, the Broken Arrow High School Percussion Ensemble performed at The 70th Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois in December of 2016.

Adam has served as Battery Arranger and Caption Head for the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps since 2020. Previously, Adam was a percussion staff member at The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from 2013-2016; in 2013, The Cadets were awarded the Drum Corps International (DCI) Fred Sanford Award for High Percussion Performance. He previously served on the instructional staff for the Crossmen, Troopers, Santa Clara Vanguard, and Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps. Adam is an alumnus of the Madison Scouts and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.

Adam is an active percussion arranger for various ensembles throughout the country in addition to Broken Arrow HS, including BOA Grand National Finalists, Regional Champions, Class Champions, and Regional Finalists. In addition, he serves as an adjudicator for various indoor percussion circuits throughout the United States, serves as the Percussion Coordinator for Winter Guard and Percussion of Oklahoma, and is a member of the WGI Percussion Advisory Board.

Adam received his bachelor’s degree at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Adam is a Yamaha Performing Artist as well as an educational artist for Innovative Percussion Inc., Remo Drumheads, Zildjian Cymbals, and Meinl Percussion.

Session TitleIndoor Percussion: Why you (and your students) should do it!
Session Description

If you are anything like me, you are always searching to provide the best possible performance experiences for your students; if you've never considered participating in Indoor/Winter Percussion, let's talk!

Through our session, you will learn of the multiple ways you can get your group involved in the activity, including ways that are cost-effective, easy on the out-of-school hours, and can seamlessly integrate into your Spring Semester Percussion Ensemble plans.

We will cover all of the bases of the activity including classification, registration, planning, designing, and performing. We will do a deep dive regarding getting started with either a movement or concert group, and learn about all of benefits these additional performance opportunities can provide your students.
