Session Proposals

Cody Sirk is a dedicated music educator and accomplished saxophonist, holding a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Saxophone Performance and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma. He currently serves as the Assistant Band Director at Washington Public Schools, where he leads the Warrior Jazz Ensemble and conducts the 7th and 8th Grade Middle School Band.
A passionate advocate for jazz education, Mr. Sirk is a frequent presenter and clinician, sharing his expertise with students and educators throughout the region. He is an active performer with the Norman Big Band and serves as a faculty member for the University of Oklahoma Summer Jazz Collective, contributing to the enrichment of the local music community. Through his commitment to excellence in both performance and education, Cody Sirk continues to inspire young musicians and foster a lifelong appreciation for music.

Traditional approaches to teaching jazz improvisation often prioritize theory-heavy instruction and advanced harmonic knowledge, which can overwhelm and discourage beginners.
