Presenter's Short Biography

Director, Heather Orr is in her 30th year teaching and 24th year as the Montgomery High School Head Choir Director. She holds a Master of Arts in Vocal Pedagogy from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Heidelberg University. Choirs under Orr's direction, have been invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in 2024, 2018, 2010, and 2005. In addition, they have been invited to perform at the National ACDA Conference in 2025, 2021 and 2011, as well as the SWACDA Divisional Conference in 2022 and 2018.

Heather Orr's choirs consistently earn Sweepstakes at UIL Competitions and choirs under her direction have been recognized with First Place at the Madrigal Festival in San Antonio, Madrigal Festival in Dallas, and Celebration of Excellence in Houston. In addition, the Madrigals have been invited to perform at Hear the Future with the Houston Chamber Choir, at the ProMusica International Music Festival in Kingston, Canada, and with Foreigner.
Orr has been recognized with the TCDA Choral Excellence Award, as a Grammy Foundation Semifinalist, UIL Sponsor Excellence Award, and Fine Arts Teacher of the Year Award for Montgomery County. She is actively sought after as a Presenter on Developing Tone and Vertical Alignment, a Region Clinician, and Adjudicator. Orr has presented several staff developments throughout Texas and New York, and at TMEA, TCDA, and ACDA. Currently, she serves TMAA on the Committee on Standards of Adjudication and Performance.
Heather Orr resides in Montgomery, TX with her husband of 31 years, Will Orr and their dog, Nugget @nugget_orr. They have four grown children, Abby, Carly, Christopher, and Claire, and three grandsons, Danny, Tommy, and William.

Session Description

Learn how to implement voice-building techniques in the classroom and how to transfer these techniques to the music. Orr will demonstrate a systematic approach to teaching breath management and vocal technique so you can maximize your choir’s true potential.
