Session Proposals

Dr. Ashley Yarbrough holds a B.M.E. from Texas Christian University, an M.M.E. from Kent State University, and a D.M.E. from Liberty University. She completed her Kodály Certification at Sam Houston State University. Professionally, Dr. Yarbrough taught in the Klein Independent School district from 1992-2019, with a brief leave of absence to be a stay-at-home mom. During that time, she developed a Kodály-based curriculum for Klein Weekday Ministries Pre-School, where she taught ages 9 months through Kindergarten. Currently, she is teaching at Powell Elementary in Conroe ISD. Her choirs have been a consistent Sweepstakes winner and awarded Outstanding Choir nine times at the Blinn Music Meet. She has presented Kodály workshops and clinics throughout the state of Texas, as well as TMEA and OAKE. Dr. Yarbrough is on staff for the Southeast Texas Kodály Institute and the Kodály program at East Texas State Baptist University. Dr. Yarbrough currently serves as the Elementary Vice President of the Texas Choral Directors Association and is a member of TMEA, TCDA, OAKE, IKS, and KET.

Many Elementary Music Teachers struggle with 5th Grade. The students are surly and often feel “too cool” for music class. In this workshop, we will learn new lesson plan strategies and activities that will make your students anxious for the next class. We will sing songs, play games, and learn new activities guaranteed to please even the most challenging class.
