Presenter's Short Biography

Jackson Anderson (b. 1994) is a musician, educator, conductor, & composer based in Oklahoma City. A versatile instrumentalist, vocalist, & conductor, he performs with the OKC Winds, many regional chamber ensembles, & the energetic JnJ Dueling Pianos.

As a composer, Jackson's music has been performed by the Dallas Winds and at national conferences, festivals, & contests across the United States. His works for band, chamber ensemble, & solo instruments are published through Rremboq Music following initial publication with C.L. Barnhouse Co..

Jackson serves as Director of Bands at Irving Middle School & Assistant Director of Bands at Norman High School. His ensembles consistently earn Superior Ratings, & he is regularly invited to guest conduct, adjudicate, & clinic throughout the region. Previously he served at Shawnee High School (2022-2024) and led the Garber Public Schools (2016-2021) band program to multiple state honors, including the 2019 Class 1A OBA Marching State Championship.

Jackson earned his degree in Instrumental Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University & earned his Master of Music Education in Instrumental Conducting at the University of Oklahoma where he previously served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (2024-2025). While at the University of Oklahoma, he studied conducting with Dr. Caroline Hand & Prof. Brian Britt, as well as composition with Dr. Maria Kaoutzani.

A frequent conference presenter and lifelong learner, Jackson regularly attends the Midwest Clinic, regional and state conferences, and is an advocate for early-career educators and rural school programs. His professional affiliations include OkMEA, OBA, TMEA, ASCAP, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Kappa Psi, Sigma Alpha Iota, and the International Percy Grainger Society. He lives in Oklahoma City with his wife, Katie, a passionate middle school choir director.

Session TitleThe First 10 Days: Setting Your Beginning Students Up for Success
Session Description

The first ten days of the beginning band classroom are some of the most critical moments in the curriculum. Not only should we be setting the standards and tone for our class, we should also be building the foundation on which all musical learning will happen. This interactive session will include a pacing guide, key concepts to be taught, and instructional strategies, resources, and suggestions to make your first 10 days the most beneficial they can be!
