Session Information
Session TitleFrom General Music Foundations to Beginning Band and Strings
Session Description

Bring your band/string instrument (or voice) and be ready to make and create music. This interactive workshop explores how Band and Orchestra programs can expand participation by placing music-making at the center of daily instruction. Grounded in a sound-before-sight approach, participants will sing, play by ear, improvise, and create while experiencing strategies that embed belonging, access, and student voice (DEIA) throughout the learning process.
Through hands-on learning, collaboration, and reflection, educators will explore practical ways to broaden entry points for all learners and strengthen long-term engagement. Participants will leave with ready-to-use tools, including strategies for integrating singing and playing, building a shared and diverse repertoire, and incorporating student choice and creativity into ensemble settings.
