| Presenter's Short Biography | Joe Clark, Ed.D. Dr. Joe Clark is in his 27th year as an educator and his 13th year serving as a district-level Director of Fine Arts. His career has included leadership roles in Industrial ISD, Spring ISD, and Humble Independent School District, where he oversees all the elementary and secondary fine arts programs and supports more than 220 fine arts educators across very diverse school communities. Under his leadership, ensembles have been recognized as State finalists, named “Best in Class,” and earned the distinction of performing at the prestigious Midwest Clinic with his jazz ensemble in 2010. Dr. Clark is a passionate advocate for music education and frequently presents on recruitment, retention, leadership development, advocacy, and long-range program sustainability. He serves as a mentor to aspiring fine arts administrators and is a respected clinician, adjudicator, and guest lecturer. He is a Past-President of the Texas Fine Arts Administrators and was honored with the organization’s 2023 Outstanding Fine Arts Administrator Award. Dr. Clark earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Conducting from Sam Houston State University and his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston, where he also earned his Texas principal and superintendent certifications. |

| Session Description | Successful instrumental programs don’t happen by accident - they are built through a cadence of consistent actions throughout the year. In this session, we’ll explore practical strategies for recruiting and retaining students in middle school and high school instrumental music programs. Drawing from 27 years in music education as both a band director and fine arts administrator, Dr. Clark will share how to create a sustainable cadence of events, student engagement opportunities, and community collaborations that strengthen program culture and long-term growth. Participants will leave with practical tools, fresh ideas, ready-to-use templates, and a customizable recruitment and retention calendar they can immediately implement in their own programs. |
