Session Proposals

Dr. Jeremy Blackwood is the Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Professor of Voice at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. In addition to the administrative role, Dr. Blackwood teaches in the Division of Music in the Department of Performing Arts as an applied voice professor and Instructor of Record for voice-related specialty courses. Additionally, Dr. Blackwood serves as Conductor and/or Music Director for Opera Southeastern and for productions in collaboration with Theatre at Southeastern each year and serves as resident Music Director for the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival. He is the Director of Music and Worship at First United Methodist Church in Sherman, TX. Dr. Blackwood earned a Doctor of Musical Arts (Vocal performance with a related field in Vocal Pedagogy) and Master of Music (Vocal Performance with a related field in Opera Theatre) from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Arkansas State University. Dr. Blackwood is in demand as an adjudicator on the state, regional, and national level. Professional memberships include American Conference of Academic Deans, Pi Kappa Lambda, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

Tracey Gregg-Boothby

Tracey Gregg-Boothby is Professor of Music at Rose State College where she conducts the Rose State Chorus and Rose State Chamber Singers, teaches private voice and several other undergraduate courses in music. Dr. Gregg-Boothby also serves as the Artistic Director for the Edmond Community Chorale in Edmond, OK.

Dr. Gregg-Boothby is a member of the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA), American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Oklahoma Choral Directors Association (OCDA) and National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and is a sought-after guest choral and vocal clinician for middle school and high school choirs. She currently serves on the national board for NCCO, the Mission and Vision in Governance board for NCCO, and as the Vice-President for Higher Education for OkMEA. She has also served as stage director and music director for numerous musical theater productions.

Dr. Gregg-Boothby received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in vocal performance at Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma City University, respectively. She completed her DMA in Choral Conducting at the University of Oklahoma, with a specialization in researching the collection, transcription, and facilitation of choral arrangements of traditional Wichita tribal songs, in order to promote preservation of the Wichita musical culture and language. As a member of the Wichita tribe, Dr. Gregg-Boothby was instrumental in commissioning new choral arrangements from several of her transcriptions of traditional Wichita melodies. She has commissioned several prominent composers including Debra Scroggins whose arrangement of Morning Star Lullaby for women’s choir has been performed in concerts throughout the United States and which has been featured by the Concierto Coro Juvenil de Colombia (National Youth Choir of Colombia) in Bogotá, South America and by Oklahoma State University’s Cantamus Camerata in their winning performance at the Choirs of the World Competition in Llanogllan, Wales.

This session will guide music educators through the thoughtful selection of age-appropriate solo vocal repertoire, emphasizing healthy vocal technique that supports developing singers. Participants will explore how range, tessitura, text, and stylistic demands can reinforce foundational skills such as posture, breath management, tone production, and diction. Practical strategies and repertoire examples will be shared to help teachers foster confidence, musical growth, and long-term vocal success in students.
