| Presenter's Short Biography | Daniel Farris serves as director of choral studies of Southwestern Oklahoma State University teaching conducting, voice, diction courses, and the choral music education sequence to performance, music education, music business, and music therapy majors. He also teaches the Southwestern summer choral camp for OkMEA/OkCDA preparation and other workshops during the academic year that work to further enrich and improve the audition skills needed for successful placement in honor choirs, NATS conferences, and auditions for music programs in the United States. Daniel is a regional and international scholar and performer with focused interests in choral conducting pedagogy, arranging/editing, and lyric diction, having presented at international, regional, and state conferences. He has conducted workshops, taught classes as a visiting professor, and performed in the United States, central and western Europe, and southeast Asia. In the summer of 2022, the Southwestern Chamber Choir traveled to Milan and Florence, Italy, and won first prize in the “Chamber” and “Italian Language” categories of the 2022 Leonardo da Vinci International Choral Festival and Competition in Florence. Raised in the strong choral tradition of Texas music education, Daniel completed a Bachelor of Music at Angelo State University and taught junior high and high school in San Angelo, TX, and Arlington, TX. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting with related fields of music theory and musicology from the University of North Texas. |

| Session Title | Ukrainian and Church Slavonic: A World of Free Music |
| Session Description | Daniel Farris presents a diction primer for Ukrainian and the Ukrainian redaction of Church Slavonic. The attendees will be introduced to the Ukrainian alphabet using the International Phonetic Alphabet, review some excerpts of Ukrainian choral music by Mykola Leontovych, Dmitro Bortniansky, and other composers, and then sing through Leontovych's "Щедрик", a popular new year's harvest carol adapted in America to serve as the song, "Carol of the Bells." |
