Position Overview:

Sequoyah Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Band Director to join our thriving music program. This position is part of a collaborative team of directors that supports and feeds into the Edmond North vertical alignment. The ideal candidate will be committed to musical excellence, student growth, and strong collaboration across grade levels.

Primary Responsibilities:

Direct and manage middle school band ensembles, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment
Assist with high school and middle school marching bands, concert bands, and chamber groups
Teach instrument-specific classes and support individual student development
Collaborate with fellow directors to ensure program continuity and vertical alignment
Participate in rehearsals, performances, competitions, and related events outside of regular school hours
Support recruitment and retention efforts for the band program
Maintain instruments, equipment, and music library

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field (required)
Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification in Oklahoma)
Experience working with middle school and/or high school band programs preferred
Strong knowledge of instrumental pedagogy and ensemble direction.
Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills

Preferred Attributes:

Percussion specialist preferred, but all qualified candidates will be considered.
Experience with marching band instruction and design, sound board expertise, etc.
Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented, vertically aligned program
Commitment to building a positive and inclusive music culture
