Children’s All-State Eligibility

Goals of All-OkMEA Children’s Chorus

  • Provide an opportunity for exceptional music students to work with guest choral clinicians on challenging music and for an exciting choral experience with other students.
  • Allow music teachers to observe and learn as the clinician works with the students and to share vocal pedagogy ideas with other teachers
  • Provide an opportunity for students to perform children’s choral repertoire of excellent quality

Teacher and School Eligibility

  1. The teacher must be a current NAfME member.
  2. Music Teacher(s) may bring the following number of students based on the number of students participating in Circle the State with Song.
  3. Students who audition for the All-State choir are REQUIRED to participate in their Circle the State with Song festival
  4. Private Studio Nominations – Private Studio Teachers are eligible to nominate students ONLY if the student’s school is not participating in Circle the State with Song. The private studio teacher must agree to the following: I have communicated with the nominating student’s school and confirm that the student’s school does not participate in Circle the State with Song. If the student’s school participates in Circle the State, then this All-State audition submission must go through their school of enrollment.

UPDATED Policy Regarding OkCDA:

Students who audition for both OkMEA Children’s All State Chorus and OkCDA Junior High All State Chorus will select their ensemble of choice (OkMEA or OkCDA) when they complete their audition application. Students are not permitted to participate in both ensembles. Children’s Chorus results will not be officially published until OkCDA auditions are complete. Audition fees will not be refunded per OkMEA’s policies.

Here are the steps the Children’s Chorus committee will follow to execute the update:

  1. On Sunday, after Children’s Chorus auditions conclude, the Children’s Chorus chair will contact those students who were selected for Children’s Chorus that chose to audition for both ensembles to let the student know their position in Children’s Chorus is secure.
  2. The student may then choose to forego their OkCDA JH All-State audition or proceed with their audition the following Tuesday.
  3. If the student chooses to audition for OkCDA and is then selected for the ensemble, they will forfeit their OkMEA Children’s All-State position.
  4. If the student chooses to audition for OkCDA and is not selected for JH All-State, their will retain their OkMEA Children’s All-State position.
