URGENT CALL TO ACTION FOR OKLAHOMA MUSIC EDUCATORS AND SUPPORTERS OF MUSIC EDUCATION:
Here is a reminder about HB 3278! Please contact the Senate Committee about this bill and even encourage your boosters/parents to reach out as well. 199 people have reached out so far - let’s at least double the effort to save our music programs that may get cut if a high school fine arts credit is no loner required.
HB 3278 passed out of the House in early March. It removes the fine arts high school graduation requirement starting in the 2024-25 school year. The high school graduation requirement is the only arts requirement we have in Oklahoma. We have legislation stating, "Students, therefore, shall study social studies, literature, languages, the arts, health, mathematics, and science" but there is no enforcement to make sure this happens in PK-8th grades. The high school requirement is the only actual requirement keeping many arts programs alive. Passage of this bill will have a devastating effect on equitable access to arts education in Oklahoma.
The link below is a stream-lined process for directly contacting those making these decisions. PLEASE visit and submit a letter today!

This is terrible! Why did they remove it? For the students that have already completed that credit keep the credit for graduation?
