Children’s All-State Audition Format

 

TRACK ONE:

Start recording the vocalise track.

Singer reads: “My name is ___________ (first and last). I am auditioning as a/an __________ (soprano, soprano middle, alto middle, alto) for the 2025 OkMEA All-State Children’s Chorus.”

Start the vocalise audition track.

Vocalise:  The student will sing 4 five-tone scale passages, ascending and descending, beginning on the given pitches and staying with the tempo of the metronome. All vocalises must be sung without accompaniment. Only the pitch will be given for each of the four vocalises. Vocalises are to be sung on the syllable, “mah” or “zah.”

The starting pitches for the vocalises are as follows:

TRACK TWO:

Start the harmonization track.

Singer reads: “My name is ______________ (first and last). I am auditioning for the 2025 OkMEA All-State Children’s Chorus.

Start the harmonization track.

Harmonic Singing: The student will demonstrate harmonic singing on the syllable “loo.”

  1. Have the student listen as both voices are played together.
  2. Have the student sing the upper line while the lower line is player.  The student should begin after hearing the starting pitch and the metronome count-off.
  3. Have the student sing the lower line while the upper line is played.  The student should begin after hearing the starting pitch and the metronome count-off.

TRACK THREE:

Start recording the prepared song track.

Singer reads: “My name is ____________ (first and last). I am auditioning for the 2025 OkMEA All-State Children’s Chorus.”

Prepared Song:  The student will demonstrate melodic singing on the prepared song, “Jubilate Deo.”  The student should begin singing without accompaniment after hearing the starting pitch and the metronome count-off.

The starting pitches for the song are as follows:

Pronunciation of the Latin syllables is as follows:  Ju=yoo; bi=bee; la=lah; te=teh / de=deh; o=open oh / A = aw; le=leh; lu=loo; ia=yaw

DO NOT STOP THE RECORDING BEFORE THE TONIC CHORD AFTER THE STUDENT COMPLETES “JUBILATE DEO,” OR THE STUDENT WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED.
