QUALIFICATIONS: Shall hold bachelor’s degree or higher and the required Oklahoma certificate for the assigned position. Shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, staff and parents. Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and family.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Athletic Director

EXTRA-DUTY SUMMARY: To carry out objectives of the Band Program by providing a quality music education through classroom teaching combined with performance. To provide an atmosphere in which a student may develop the technical skills necessary to play an instrument. To develop an organization that will cultivate self-discipline and teamwork.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Supervise all performances and practice sessions.
Prepare students for performances and approved regional and state events.
Coordinate clinics and regional events that are held at assigned buildings.
Keep an accurate and up-to-date inventory.
Assume responsibility for the care of equipment and facilities used for the program.
Inform students of awards criteria at the beginning of the year and recommend students for awards based on a fair interpretation of that criteria.
Recommend facility maintenance or improvements.
Recommend budget items for the activity portion of the Band Program to be included in the band building budget.
Communicate regularly with the supervisor regarding the progress and development of the Band Activity Program.
Prepare a detailed annual report highlighting the activity accomplishment, participation levels and recommendations for improvement of the activity.
Assist in supervising students on out-of-town activities which may involve staying overnight.
Prepare the band to perform at football games, basketball games, community events, marching competitions, local parades, school concerts, civic events, and concert competitions.
