OMEA HONORS: 2013 applications for 2014 Convention Awards
(The deadline for nominations for the 2014 Convention is September 30, 2013)
OMEA Hall of Fame: This honor is for experienced music educators who have distinguished themselves as teachers, officers in OMEA and/or NAfME, researchers in music education, and those members who have shown active political support of music education in the state and nation.
Exemplary Teacher: This honor is to recognize music teachers in the state who have demonstrated a mastery of music education through the production of exemplary performing organizations and/or individual music students.
Outstanding Young Music Educator: This honor is to recognize music teachers who have completed no more than 5 years of teaching at the time of nomination who have demonstrated outstanding music education early in their career.
Administrator of the Year: This honor is to recognize school administrators who have shown consistent and significant support for music education and for the music education staff in their schools.
The deadline for nominations for the 2014 convention presentations is September 30, 2013.
These procedures were amended by the Board in the spring of 2009 to make nominations easier.

OMEA Honor Awards
This fall the OMEA Awards and Recognition Committee will meet to choose music teachers and administrators within the state to receive the OMEA Honor Awards. No later than September 30, send or e-mail (preferred) (1) the name of the person you are nominating to the Immediate Past President of OMEA (below), with (2) your complete contact information, (3) a letter of recommendation of the nominee including evidence of criteria met for award, and (4) phone number, address, e-mail of the nominee. You may be requested to send other information about your nominee at a later date. The Awards and Recognition committee will then meet to choose the candidates. Their choices will be presented to the October meeting of the OMEA Executive Board for final approval. After selection, the laureate must provide, before November 1, a picture and short professional biography to the Editor of OKLAHOMA MUSIC.

OMEA Hall of Fame
This award gives recognition to a member or past member for exceptional service to OMEA and demonstration of excellence in the teaching of music. Nominees may be living or deceased, active or retired.
- Must have completed twenty-five (25) years of active service (a minimum of 15 years in Oklahoma) as a music teacher and/or music administrator.
- Must have made a significant contribution to music education in Oklahoma.
- Must have been a member of OMEA/NAfME for a minimum of 15 years.
- Must have served OMEA in a significant region or state capacity.
- Must have demonstrated excellence in the teaching of music.
OMEA Exemplary Teacher
This award gives recognition to a member that has demonstrated excellence in the teaching of music. Nominees may be active or retired.
- Must have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of active service (a minimum of 10 years must have been in Oklahoma, as a music teacher) in the field of music. The additional five (5) years may have been in a music administration position, such as a music coordinator or supervisor. The current teaching year may be counted in the totals above.
- Must have been a member of OMEA/NAfME for a minimum of 10 years. Current membership is a positive support for the award.
- Must have demonstrated excellence in the teaching of music, as evidenced by competition, awards, and peer or administrator statements.
- Must have demonstrated personal and academic growth as a music educator.
OMEA Young Music Educator
This award is to recognize music teachers who have demonstrated outstanding music education early in their career.
- Must have completed no more than 5 years teaching experience at the time of nomination.
- Must be a current member of OMEA.
- Must have demonstrated excellence in the teaching of music, as evidenced by competition, awards, and peer or administrator statements.
- Must have demonstrated personal and academic growth as a music educator.
OMEA Administrator of the Year
This award gives recognition to school administrators in the State of Oklahoma who show exceptional support for their school’s music program. This award provides our organization the opportunity to honor those who have supported music as an important part of the total curriculum, and have given administrative support to music teachers and directors. Nominees may be active or retired. They may be in any level of administration, such as superintendent, principal, department head, coordinator, supervisor, etc. The music teacher submitting this application must have worked with the nominee for a period of at least four school terms, and must be a current member of OMEA.
- This administrator demonstrates support of music as an important part of the total curriculum.
- This administrator attends public performances of school ensembles.
- This administrator supports the school or district music faculty.
